acceptance

Well, as of this weekend, I’ve realized a few things things…

1) I don’t want to go to law school and/or be a lawyer
2) I have little to no interest in philosophy anymore
3) I’m going to be lucky to even barely pass my classes this semester
4) I will almost certainly fail out of school if I stay in the philosophy major
5) I will not meet the minimum GPA necessary to maintain my scholarships and I am unsure as to the specifics of any probationary period pertaining to my scholarships, thus, I will probably lose them
6) I have no clue whatsoever what I would prefer to major in

I’m sure there’s more, but those are the key points.

So, any thoughts on what I should do with my life? P.S. stay in school and finish the philosophy degree is not a viable answer, see points #1-6 above.

on college…

I find myself once again believing that College is not the right place for me.

College is for people who can commit to something, people who can work through four or more years of the same bullshit.

I just can’t do that. Even if I were sure that I could, I’m not sure

that I would want to.

I can’t think of anything in this world that I’d be willing to dedicate four or more years to, and certainly not a ton of meaningless busy work and droll reading of ramblings by useless authors and scholars who have not done and will never do anything to actually change the world we live in.

of apple and education…

so apple released a gorgeous new imac today, 20″ and 24″ models, super thin, stylish aluminum and glass case, impressive specs, super-thin keyboard, and at the same price as before.

bravo.

they also unveiled ilife ‘08 and iwork ‘08, both of which suites i purchased in their previous incarnation (ilife ‘06 and iwork ‘06) and was prepared to do again today, until i noticed that apple increased their educational pricing from the previous $49 rate (which was available the day both suites were released in january 2006) which was a $30 discount from the retail cost of $79 to an insulting $71, only an $8 discount from retail. In addition, they completely eliminated the educational pricing from all ipods last year, and today they eliminated the educational pricing on apple keyboards and mice.

you’re really a “class act” aren’t you apple?

apple, you really don’t like students anymore do you?

as soon as it became “cool to use a mac” on college campuses, you decided it was “cool to fuck your educational customers as hard as possible.”

and steve jobs, you say that bill gates and microsoft have no class? look in the mirror, that’s somebody without class.

thanks apple…

i almost wish microsoft would get their act together, then i’d be tempted to switch back to windows, at least their discounts for students, educators and non-profit organizations are still respectable.

another milestone

well, while i’m sure this will disappoint some of my extended family, (whom I’m going to see in a few short hours) I just finished registering to attend U.C.S.B. (Santa Barbara) this coming fall.

when push comes to shove, in ten years my undergraduate institution will not matter, and in 2 years, my applications to law school and/or graduate school will stand a better chance of being accepted if my scores on the LSAT/GMAT/GRE are high and my GPA is high, which I have a better opportunity to achieve at UCSB, where their financial aid package is going to cover the total cost of my education without loans or work-study. Plus since I’m a “Regents Scholar” I am automatically enrolled in the honors program.

Bleh… time to shower and get ready for a long drive…

p.s. if you notice any weird blogs over the next few days its most probably temporary while i iron out the kinks of posting to my blog from netnewswire

decisions, decisions…

Well, its decision time…

I was accepted at all 4 schools I applied to, UCSD, UCSB, UCSC, and UCB.

All of them put together roughly the same financial aid package, $22000/year with roughly $5000 in subsidized loans.

All of them except UCSB whom today informed me that I’ve been awarded a Regents Scholarship which would a) guarantee me housing if necessary, b) give me on campus benefits, c) give me an additional $6000 a year free, for 2 years, and d) replace “need based loans and federal work study as determined by my FAFSA with more grants and scholarships, thus effectively granting me a free education at UCSB.

decisions…

any thoughts?
