moving on up…

Yesterday (monday July 21st) I took the train from Croydon, up to Prestatyn, North Wales.

After dinner that evening we drove around the area which generally confirmed my early statement about the U.K. being “enchanted.” Simply beautiful country, and even in a tiny area like this, there’s an amazing local church.

Anyway, today I took the train into Liverpool, saw the two cathedrals, then went down to the albert dock to see the beatles museum, the maritime museum, and the international slavery museum. Then I took a quick stop on the train back to see the Lady Lever Art Gallery (on recommendation from paul.)

Tomorrow its off to Alton Towers for a day of “relaxing” if I can call it that, then thursday I head into Manchester.

Friday is undecided, but saturday is a day-trip to Dublin, Ireland… St. James Gate (makers of Guiness) factory tour here I come!

Great post, Michael. Thanks, too, for the photos on Flickr. Please get someone to take a photo of you now and again. So glad you got to see the slavery museum and the Lady Lever gallery.

If you can get into Northern Ireland, there is a great Lewis tour.

Ken Harper’s Taxitours. C.S. LEWIS Homeland Tour

Ken Harper is a great fan of the famous Belfast born author, and he himself conducts the taxi tour through the countryside from where Lewis got his ideas for The Chronicle of Narnia. Along the way you will learn that Lewis’s brother collected, old maps, and C.S.Lewis saw the name Narnia on one of them and used it. For those who don’t know Lewis’s work, think of The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe and The Dark Tower.

Little Lea was Lewis’s home, a beautiful house overlooking the River Lagan and Ken will take you there and tell you stories of Lewis‘s time in the house. He will also take you to the Church of St. Mark where there is a stained-glass window and a font dedicated to Lewis.
