John E. Mallon, 1948-2007

John E. Mallon died Thursday, January 25, 2007, after surgery at St. John’s Regional Medical Center, Oxnard. He was comforted by the presence of his children, their mother and Father James Stehly, whose ministry to John deeply respected John’s Christian faith.

Born on July 11, 1948 in Pomona, CA, John was the second son of the late Robert G. Mallon and Clara E. Smith. He was educated at Humboldt State University.

John worked at Baxter Bioscience in Thousand Oaks for the past eight years. He was a resident of Camarillo.

An avid sports fan (he bled Dodger Blue), a brilliant technician (an early adopter of all new technologies), an amateur musician, lover of the outdoors, and a strong believer in youth programs, his children have inherited his passion for sports, the outdoors and for helping young people.

He is survived by his daughter Jill and her son Luke (John’s beloved grandson), sons Matthew and Michael, his former wife Lyn Sylva, his mother Clara, his brother Mike, sister Mary, and sister Susan Hunn (husband Richard) and numerous nieces and nephews. John’s ashes will be taken at a later date to Pollock Pines, California.

The family wants to thank the health care professionals at St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo, Father Stehly of St. Mary Magdalene Parish in Camarillo, Paul Ford and all of John’s many friends and co-workers.

A memorial service to celebrate John Mallon’s life will be held at 10:00 A.M. in the museum of St. Mary Magdalene Chapel, 2532 Ventura Boulevard, Camarillo, where John had been a cub scout master. Memorial gifts to either the National Hemophilia Foundation or the Villanova Preparatory School Football Program would be appreciated, in lieu of flowers.

I miss you dad…

I miss you so much. Your family loves you, and we know you’re in a better place now.

We’re proud of you. We miss you. We’ll always love you.

John E. Mallon

two steps forward…

one step back.

these things just don’t really get any easier, and as my philosophy mentor wrote…

“Sometimes emotional exhaustion is much worse than physical exhaustion: I think it always is, actually.”

at the end of day 2, i don’t feel as exhausted as i did after the first, though tomorrow morning will be the real test.

on a sidebar, i’m going to donate blood tomorrow.

i have a newfound profound respect for the nature of blood donations, and will henceforth strive to do my part as often as allowed and as long as i am healthy and able.

i urge anyone who’s never donated blood to at least consider doing so, it saves lives, and we’re always short in supply.

tired

i’m tired.

so tired that i couldn’t sleep last night, and that when i finally did get to sleep, i overslept my alarm for class today.

i don’t ever want to repeat yesterday.

joey & olliver….

so around christmas, my brother informed us that his girlfriends dog Joey would soon be staying with us as her new condo does not have a yard and is generally not well suited for animals.

ok, this should be fun, we’ve not had a dog in a while, just cats.

so Joey turns out to be a small little yippy dog with severe behavior issues, however thanks to my brother working with him on a daily basis, Joey has dramatically improved.

now we’re half-way through january, and we’re visiting my sister in san diego this past weekend for my nephew luke’s birthday party (though his birthday was on the 5th) and as we’re getting ready to leave for home yesterday around 9am, my sister’s neighbor winnie calls, and she’s been trying for a couple months to find a home for her almost-7-year-old golden retriever Olliver.

not good.

we love golden retrievers.

so after a brief introduction, we find ourselves heavy one Olliver for the drive home.

given his behavior during the 160 mile car ride, i’d say he’s a keeper.

so in addition to the new photo gallery (furrier family members.) here is a picture of Olliver.
